Original Analog Guthrie, Leadbelly FOLKSAY, American Ballads Dances Near Mint
Original Analog: Guthrie, Leadbelly: FOLKSAY, American Ballads Dances Near Mint. The revival of Folk Music that began in the mid-20th Century. Has had a profound and continuing effect on the.

Development and History of Recorded Music. It came at the same time (early 1950's) that the new innovation in recording technology began its transition to the 33. RPM Vinyl "Long Play", and away from its earliest form of 78 RPM shellac. Much of the newer music forms that followed had "roots" in these poetic melodies.

The emotions stirred with the tales telling of melancholy, folklore, custom, and cultural identity provide continuity to the lyrical processes of our nation's oral traditions. Stinson Records, Folkways Records and Elektra. Were among the standout organizations in the recording and manufacturing of these national treasures. Offered in this listing is an unusual release of.

Folksay - American Ballads and Dances from 1953 on the Stinson Label. Released a 4 record Shellac 78 RPM Album Set on his own. Asch Records Label - American Ballads and Dances. Not long after, the label fell on hard times and ceased production.

But when one door closes - another opens - and. Went on to start a new company. With (as we know) a much better outcome.

Also controlled a number of other labels, among them. To keep up with the emerging 33.

(SLP # 5) in 1953. Our offered copy here should rightly be regarded as a "Misprint", as a consequence of these 2 observations: 1 As with the original shellac set, the front cover artwork is by the well-regarded. In the process of printing however, the image was pulled leftward and while extending the artwork on the right side, it also obscured the DSM signature on the far left.

Most of the available copies on Stinson corrected for this - but not this copy. 2 Also evident on this unusual copy is an anomaly in the lower right corner of the front cover (please see our Photo Gallery). The blacked out rectangle above "Stinson Records" says "Asch Records" - another feature not seen on most of the available copies. The likely explaination for these anomalies is that this copy is one of the earliest releases of SLP # 5, and ultilized the front of the shellac issue perhaps there were some left over? , and the Asch Records reference was simply blacked out to promote Stinson.

Later copies then corrected this. American Ballads and Dances (Volume 1).

Stinson Records - SLP # 5 (on the front & back Cover), SLP 5 (on both Labels). Edition Release - Please See Below for the Deadwax Matrixes. Vinyl Record and Album Cover. This beautiful record is lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear.

A Note About The Recording Technology. In the early 1950's, the invention of Vinyl Records (33 1/3 RPM) was a new analog Mono technology that became more commercially popular than the existing 78 RPM shellac recordings. Improved mono recording methods later pioneered by. (and others), and then Stereo in late 1950, reduced this noise problem.

Dead Wax Run Out Matrix Identifiers (Actual). (Etched) : SLP 5A Vol I. Etched : SLP 5B Vol I. 1 On both Side A & B.

Is a reference to the Plastylite Pressing logo. It appears as a cursive-type, stylized letter P - and appears a bit like this.

It is sometimes referred to as an "ear". The logo is stamped (not etched).

2 Also on both Side A & B matrixes is another identifier that is difficult to describe - likely the mark of the recording engineer. Weirdly, if you look at it long enough it might be an abstract version of Moses - who was a recording engineer in addition to his many talents.

We might be reading into it... We've attempted a photo that you can see in our Gallery. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -.
